I Smell A Rat

Henry, bless his little puppy heart, smells. Not like “rolling in dead rodent” smell (like Dumb Dog who we had growing up), but he just has a certain…aroma. We bathe him regular and whatnot, but he still manages to stink himself up but good.

We took him on a walk on Sunday and let him play in the water, since he was due for his weekly bath, so he came home happy, tired, and smelling like pond scum. After his bath he was shiny-white and smelled like clean dog, which is a smell I can handle.

Yesterday, being Monday and the day after Hen’s bath, when I picked him up in the morning I noticed he smelled really good. Kind of like flower blossoms.

“What’s up with Henry, he smells really good?” I asked Joey.

“I dunno,” he bent down to sniff Henry’s head, “But you’re right, he does smell good. That is strange.”

When we got home from work, the lovely smell continued to surround Henry. It was like a “good dog” aura, which we knew wasn’t true, and it was extremely confusing. I mean, how does a dog go from smelling like a dog one day to smelling like flowers the next morning?

Joey had a huge final to study for, so he got up at 5:00 this morning to study. I got up at 6:15 (well, sort of…I lolled around until 6:30 before finally rolling out of bed) and when I went to brush my teeth, I found the shower pouf from my gym bag shredded up and laying on the bathroom counter.

“What’s up with this?” I called to Joey, holding up my masticated pouf.

“Oh, Henry seems to have gotten into your gym bag and eaten that, which explains why he smelled like flowers yesterday.”

“Oh…loser dog,” I said, pushing the pouf into the trash, about the only place it was good for anymore. This is the second shower pouf of mine that Henry has eaten. He doesn’t destroy anything else except for those…that guy has real issues. And, unfortunately, the floral smell is starting to wear off so he smells normal again.

Joey is my best friend. We welcomed our miracle baby, Analie Alexa on November 23, 2010. She was 7 lbs of cuteness and we are so thankful for her. We lost our first baby (who we symbolically named Samuel) the summer of 2009. I love being a Christian, even when it's hard. I've tried IVF. Twice. It worked. Once. That's how we got Analie. I'm always willing to talk about infertility. Diagnosis: Stage 4 Endometriosis (plus a few other bonus things) I'm live in Indiana. I enjoy reading and going for walks in the evening. I get my news from NPR. Someday I want to be a guest on Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me. I love backpacking, hiking, canoeing and survival camping. I'm a big fan of weekends. My bike's name is Thunder. 1. I met a Shih Tzu a couple of weeks ago, named Obadiah (Obi for short) and he had a funny stink, too…I thought “THIS must be what Jenna talks about when she says Henry smells like a Wet Sock. Now, I know…all to well.” Anyway, I like the “quilt piece looking” icons on your comments section…

  2. Do I get the pretty blue one everytime I leave a comment? Cool! (I’m testing it.)

  3. Even cooler, when I click on it, it takes me to my blog. :) Okay, done w/ the commenting on “I Smell a Rat.” Henry does have an issue…it’s a loofa for goodness sake! :)
