Main Street

There’s been a whole lot of Wall Street vs. Main Street yakkin’ on NPR lately, and I’ll have you all know that I grew up on Main Street.

Sometimes when I get an itsy bitsy bit homesick for the Great White North (Iowa in this instance, not Canada) then I pull up my parents’ house on Google Earth and look at it.  I realize that President Bush also does this with his ranch in Crawford, and that’s actually where I got the idea.

So…here’s where I grew up.  (Props to Brother for actually getting this picture for me in the first place.  I couldn’t figure it out.)

One thing I don’t miss?  Mowing that huge front yard.  There is no shade out there and it takes forever, even on a riding lawnmower.  I think it’s an acre, but I’m sure that Sister probably knows the exact percentage of an acre it is, so I’ll just wait for her to FactCheck me.

In just about five weeks I intend to be running around in the pasture with coveralls and mud boots on.  (Maybe Dad will need help fixing the sprayer again?)  Hooray for going home for Thanksgiving!

About jennawoestman

Joey is my best friend. We welcomed our miracle baby, Analie Alexa on November 23, 2010. She was 7 lbs of cuteness and we are so thankful for her. We lost our first baby (who we symbolically named Samuel) the summer of 2009. I love being a Christian, even when it's hard. I've tried IVF. Twice. It worked. Once. That's how we got Analie. I'm always willing to talk about infertility. Diagnosis: Stage 4 Endometriosis (plus a few other bonus things) I'm live in Indiana. I enjoy reading and going for walks in the evening. I get my news from NPR. Someday I want to be a guest on Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me. I love backpacking, hiking, canoeing and survival camping. I'm a big fan of weekends. My bike's name is Thunder. I'm a youth pastor's wife. I dig cows. I don't handle stress well. I'm not good at fishing; I talk too much. Cooking and baking are my favorite. I love hanging out with my girlfriends! I'm a budding environmentalista. I love me my Joey. Texas is where we "came of age". I enjoy seeing animals and want my very own Alpaca. And Koala. And Panda. Conservation is beautiful. I'm a neat freak. I like all-natural, chemical-free, environmentally-friendly products. Green is my favorite color. Still.

  1. Amazing! The tree count and shape are exactly right! But then, I guess it is a picture.

I think the house etc are on 4 acres… so we probably end up mowing 3 1/2–no wonder it takes so long!! We really miss you kids!! :-p

  2. You blasphemed our fair Iowa by referring to it as the “Great White North” … Loser.

  3. I’m jealous. I won’t be able to smell the hog lots of Waterloo for another two months!
